A War It Didn’t Start: Africa Pays the Price for the US-Iran Conflict
1. African economies are paying the price for a war far from their borders, as disruption around the Strait of Hormuz increases fuel costs, tightens supplies and strains fragile budgets.
2. Fuel-importing economies in East Africa, the Horn and parts of North and Southern Africa are under the sharpest pressure. Oil producers are getting some support from higher crude prices, but they are still not insulated.
3. A broader food crisis is looming and if disruption spreads through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, or drags on for longer, the shock could deepen into wider trade, fiscal and humanitarian stress.
