Apple is preparing to unveil the biggest Siri overhaul in years during WWDC 2026 next month, introducing a standalone version of the assistant focused on both artificial intelligence and privacy.
Reports indicate that the new Siri app will evolve into a full conversational assistant similar to modern AI chatbots, allowing users to start new chats, keep conversation history, upload files, and continue interactions through voice or text inside a dedicated interface.
Apple also plans to introduce auto-deleting conversations, giving users the option to erase chat history after 30 days, one year, or keep it permanently, similar to the iMessage app.
Details
According to reports, the revamped Siri will rely on Google’s Gemini models, but through Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute servers in an effort to prevent user data from being directly used for AI model training.
Apple is positioning privacy as a major competitive advantage against rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini, with tighter restrictions on data storage and memory handling inside the system.
The new interface will offer two viewing modes:
- A direct conversation layout similar to ChatGPT.
- A message-list view closer to the Messages app.
The company is also working on a universal gesture for instantly opening a new Siri conversation anywhere in the system.
Despite multiple delays, Apple is expected to release the new Siri with a beta label even after iOS 27 launches this fall, alongside an option allowing users to exit the beta experience and return to the classic Siri assistant.
What’s Next?
Attention is now shifting toward WWDC 2026 to see how capable the new Siri actually is, especially after years of delays and mounting pressure on Apple in the AI race.
