1- Trump is once again projecting optimism, speaking of a humanitarian gesture from Tehran and betting that the door to negotiations will remain open, while Israeli reports say a new round of talks could be held at the weekend!
2- The Revolutionary Guards have announced the seizure of two ships near the Strait of Hormuz, immediately casting doubt on the strength of the ceasefire and the value of the extension!
3- In the background, American force is moving into the region: more than 10,000 U.S. troops are set to flow into the Middle East this month, including 6,000 aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush!

News

The crisis has entered a phase of conflicting signals:

  • Trump has extended the ceasefire and is once again speaking confidently about the possibility of reaching an understanding.
  • Tehran, meanwhile, is responding in practice by intensifying the confrontation in Hormuz.
  • At the same time, U.S. reinforcements are moving toward the region by sea and air!
  • The picture now is not one of peace approaching, but of mounting pressure under the cover of fragile diplomacy!

Details:

• Trump said that a second round of talks with Iran could be held at the weekend, while expressing hope for reaching a permanent ceasefire without the need for further extensions!

• In parallel with this optimism, he said in a post on Truth Social that eight Iranian women would not be executed, that four would be released immediately, and that four would receive only one month in prison, presenting this as a response to his request!

• But the most important development came at sea: the Revolutionary Guards announced the seizure of two ships near the Strait of Hormuz, after days of rising tension over the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports.

• The New York Times reported that the seizure of the two ships came hours after Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire, and that the Iranian move showed that Washington and Tehran are still locked in a struggle over control of movement through the region’s most important waterway, while Pakistani mediation has yet to achieve any clear breakthrough!

• On the Iranian side, posts by President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on X reflect a tougher tone in political language:

• Tehran says it does not reject dialogue in principle, but believes that the blockade, threats, and U.S. breaches of commitments make “genuine negotiations” almost impossible at this moment!

• From the Israeli side, Channel 12 reported that around 6,000 American troops will arrive this week aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Bush, while The Times of Israel said the total number of U.S. reinforcements heading to the region this month exceeds 10,000, with an additional 4,200 in the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group!

• The bottom line: Washington is talking as if it is giving diplomacy one last chance, while at the same time deploying fresh military weight so that it can enter any negotiations from a stronger and harsher position!

What next?

This coming Sunday looks more like a test date than a breakthrough date!

If the ceasefire holds and a new round of negotiations is confirmed, Trump will say the blockade has worked!

But if the game of ships, blockades, and reciprocal responses continues, the ceasefire will turn into nothing more than a short pause before a more dangerous round!
