Iran is not saying a clear “yes” or a decisive “no.” It is leaving the door open enough to prevent an explosion, and closed enough to protect its cards.
But Trump read the response, and he did not like it.
U.S. President Donald Trump said in a new post: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” He added: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, Iran’s response to the U.S. proposal came in several pages, but did not fully meet Washington’s demands and left clear gaps between the two sides, especially over uranium and nuclear facilities.
Details
• Iran offered a shorter enrichment suspension, diluting part of its highly enriched uranium stockpile and transferring the rest to a third country.
• Tehran requested guarantees that the uranium would be returned if negotiations fail or if the United States withdraws from any future agreement.
• Iran rejected dismantling its nuclear facilities, the most confrontational point with the U.S. and Israeli demand.
• Tehran is proposing an end to the war and a gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the U.S. blockade.
• In the background, Israel is pressing to prevent Iran’s response from turning into a partial deal that gives Tehran time and money without dismantling its nuclear infrastructure.
• The visit by Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani to Baghdad adds a field-level signal: Iran is not only negotiating with Washington, but also trying to control its nearby arenas so the fronts do not explode before Trump’s decision becomes clear.
What next?
Trump’s position moves the story from reading the offer to political warning.
If his statement that the response is totally unacceptable is only negotiating pressure, we may see a quick round of revisions through mediators. But if it is a final declaration, Washington and Tel Aviv will return to the maximum-pressure option.
The equation is clearer now: Iran left the door half-open, but Trump says the opening is not enough.
