Sony Pictures has announced plans to restore and reopen the iconic Cinerama Dome in Hollywood alongside the neighboring ArcLight Hollywood complex. The landmark is scheduled to welcome audiences again in early 2028 after remaining closed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Historic landmark: Opened in 1963, the Cinerama Dome is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable theaters, known for its distinctive geodesic design and 70mm presentations.
• Operating plan: Sony-owned Alamo Drafthouse will manage the venue while preserving the Cinerama name, its historic character, and its traditional moviegoing experience without in-theater dining.
• Adjacent complex: The project also includes reopening the 14-screen ArcLight Hollywood, featuring 35mm and 70mm capabilities, special screenings, filmmaker series, and premieres.
• Why it closed: The theater and complex shut down in 2021 following the pandemic and the bankruptcy of Pacific Theatres before Sony stepped in to revive the property.
