1. Daniel Kinahan has been arrested in Dubai under a warrant issued by the Irish courts over alleged serious organised crime offences. 2. Irish and UAE authorities said the arrest was made under a bilateral extradition agreement after a request from Ireland. 3. The move marks a major development in a long-running case tied to the Kinahan crime group and wider cross-border organised crime investigations.

Daniel Kinahan, alleged to be a leading figure in the Kinahan organised crime group, was arrested in Dubai on Wednesday, 15 April. Irish police said the arrest was made on foot of a warrant issued by the Irish courts in relation to alleged serious organised crime offences.

Dubai police said the arrest followed the receipt of a judicial file from Irish authorities outlining Kinahan’s alleged crimes and links to an international criminal organisation.

UAE prosecutors then issued an arrest warrant to begin legal proceedings ahead of possible extradition. Dubai police said he was located within 48 hours after intensive search and surveillance operations. An Garda Síochána said the arrest was made under the bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates and called it an important example of international law-enforcement cooperation.

Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said the arrest follows his request to the UAE for Kinahan’s extradition to face charges in Ireland. Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the case showed the extradition arrangement between both countries was working effectively.

Kinahan was sanctioned by the United States in 2022 after he and other family members were identified as leaders of the Kinahan organised crime cartel. He also had a high-profile link to boxing through the now-defunct MTK Global, which represented major fighters including Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton.

What Else

The case now moves into the UAE legal process, where extradition procedures and due process will determine the next steps. The arrest is likely to renew attention on international efforts against organised crime networks, while also putting Kinahan’s long-running profile in both crime investigations and boxing back in focus.
